Introducing Shanghai Reiki Practitioner, Gabriel Salazar

Body & Soul: Tell us a little bit about your background. Gabriel Salazar: I am from Colombia and my degree is in law. I was working as a freelance lawyer but never really felt comfortable in that career. I became interested in reiki in 2008 and began studying with my reiki master in 2009. I’ve always felt a connection with spiritual things and healing. I trained in reiki techniques and use of a pendulum and gemstones. I continued learning more about reiki and related healing, but pursued it more as a hobby versus a career until recently. I assist clients in Shanghai through reiki healing, energy and chakra cleansing, and various empowering rituals.

B & S: How did you end up in Shanghai working with Body & Soul?

G.S: My wife, Bibiana (psychologist at Body & Soul), and I came to China in 2010, searching for new opportunities. We knew it would be a totally different experience for us. We both had an interest in Eastern philosophy and traditions so this also intrigued us.
Sometime after Bibiana joined the Body & Soul team, I decided it was time for a professional change. I was feeling more and more drawn to my reiki practice. Through the connection to Body & Soul, I found the perfect place to offer my healing services in Shanghai. It is ideal because of Body & Soul’s holistic approach to well-being, and reiki is such a natural fit with TCM.

What is reiki?

Reiki comes from two Sanskrit words: Rei, meaning spirit/universe (higher power) and Ki (Qi in Chinese), meaning the vital energy. It was an ancient practice that was rediscovered by the Japanese. Reiki is essentially healing through energy. It can be used for relaxation and healing of all sorts. The practitioner uses his hands to channel the energy throughout the body.

Reiki is a wonderful complement to other medical treatments, and perfect for maintaining good health, well-being and positive energy. Reiki is a useful tool for life in Shanghai, where the environment and lifestyle can leave you feeling depleted or highly stressed.

Stay tuned for more about the process of reiki, specific conditions it can help with and what happens during a Shanghai reiki session. Contact Body & Soul online to make an appointment with Gabriel or call +86 21 5101 9262.
