Celebrating Feminine Energy on Women’s Day

Like yin and yang, we are all made up of feminine and masculine energy. The masculine side relates to thinking, action and things we can describe in words. The feminine side is about inner energy, feelings and intuition. In today’s world, many women connect more with their masculine energy in order to compete and survive. The feminine side is pushed down and devalued. A woman may lose touch with this important part of herself and feel disconnected from her intuition and her body.

On Women’s Day and beyond, here are a few ways to celebrate and reconnect with our feminine energy:

Get in tune with your cycle and the energies and resources of its different phases.

Miranda Gray is a world-renowned author who wrote Red Moon about the menstrual cycle as a source of energy and renewal. Understanding our cyclical energies can help us optimize our creativity, achievement, sexuality, and spirituality. She breaks the cycle down into phases and the related strengths/optimal focus for those times: Reflective Phase (approx. days 1-6): inner processing, creative reviewing, rest and renewal, Dynamic Phase (days 7-13): mental focus, concentration, learning, physical stamina, Expressive Phase (days 14-20): communication, team work, supporting others, Creative Phase (days 21-28): inspiration, out-of-the-box thinking, problem solving, assertiveness.

Connect with your body.

Be aware of your body. Feel your skin when you apply lotion, enjoy your shape. Do something that gives your body pleasure. Try yoga, belly dancing or something physical that’s new to you.

Be aware of how you’re talking to yourself; examine negative perceptions of femininity.

Instead of using “should”, use “could/can” (not “I should eat better”, but “I CAN eat better”). Practice affirmations. Don’t minimize your intuition or feelings. Sometimes we’ll refer to a woman as “emotional” which negates the importance of emotions to us all. What we’re referring to is something that might be causing a person to be reactive or unable to manage her emotions. Listen to what is troubling you and think about your needs. Explore how you’re living out what you’ve been taught (or absorbed) about femininity and roles.

I’ll share more on this topic in upcoming articles, including the work I do with clients related to feminine energy and relationship issues, finding purpose, and tapping into all of our potential. If you need support embracing your femininity, learning to love your body or loving yourself in order to have quality relationships, contact Body & Soul online to schedule a consultation.
