Back Pain SOS: Your Stomach May Be the Culprit!
CLINICAL CASE:
“It hurts between my shoulder blades.”
“I need my back to be cracked.”
“I need a massage where it hurts.”
Is this what you need, or is it the sensation your body is manifesting? 🤔
Treatments without clinical criteria and an approach focused on the underlying causes are just
isolated techniques.
In a chronic or recurring gastric condition, irritation of the stomach walls occurs, which then
affects its fasciae and anatomical relationships. But of course, you wouldn’t notice this unless
they assess stomach mobility and motility.
The stomach has ligaments that connect it to the diaphragm (gastrophrenic ligament) and
fasciae that are part of the biomechanics of this important muscle… so it could lead to postural
alterations, right? Since the diaphragm is a very important muscle in the postural system (if you
assess your patients’ diaphragm, ask yourself why it might be stiff, tense, etc.)
On the other hand, the sympathetic innervation of the stomach corresponds to the D6-D9 spinal
levels (middle dorsal area, does it sound familiar?) so a constant stomach irritation could
sensitize that area… or even the phrenic nerve (C3-C5).
The change lies in an integrated approach 💪👋☺
